A small delegation of the Blender team (Dalai Felinto and Francesco Siddi) is going to attend the Game Developers Conference – GDC in San Francisco on 17-21 March, with the main goal to connect with individuals and teams using Blender to create interactive content.

This year we are also organizing a Blender Meetup event (Birds of a Feather-style), focused on connecting producers, developers, TDs and artists working in studios where Blender is part of the pipeline. The goal is to share ongoing Blender development, Blender Studio pipeline insights, and give visibility to teams who wish to share their experience using Blender in production.

This time we go for an informal setting on Tuesday, 18 March at 10:00AM at the Yerba Buena Gardens (in front of the Moscone conference center). Look for the Blender flag, bring your own coffee and see you there!

If you want to connect besides the event, reach out to francesco at blender.org.

    Blender at Annecy 2024 Recap https://www.blender.org/press/blender-at-annecy-2024-recap/ Thu, 20 Jun 2024 17:40:04 +0000 https://www.blender.org/?p=92149

Let’s recap yet another successful Annecy experience for the Blender team. This year we had a corner booth at the film market, a short film selected in the festival, and a studio meet-up event in the city center.

The film market went well. At this point everyone is well aware of Blender’s existence, and there is a growing amount of professional users successfully tackling more and more complex challenges with the software.

I had informal conversations with several high-budget film directors and story artists using and praising Blender for the story development process. Adoption into the production pipeline is still slow for large organization, while in smaller, younger and more agile studio, using Blender at the core is simply the norm. From those studios, there is an active interest in the Blender Studio Tools a set of scripts, add-ons and documentation aimed at facilitating collaborative work in a Blender-centric environment.

There has been a growing trend in the past few years, where individuals and teams come by to share the work in progress on their production, or to let us know that the production was successfully completed. This year, several production were selected and screened at the festival – also winning awards. Congratulations to FLOW (feature film, 4 Awards), The car that came back from the sea (short film, 2 awards), Pictoplasma “opener 2023” (1 award), and The Worlds Divide (feature film).

The Blender for Breakfast event was a great opportunity to create connections between professionals and get a glimpse of the growing Blender-based studio landscape. Will definitely repeat next year.

Finally, special thanks to Dell for supporting us with a demo workstation during the event, so we could present high quality demos of the brushstroke technology from the Gold project, and more.

Blender is truly making it possible for filmmakers to create and share excellent work. See you next time!

    Blender at Annecy 2023 Recap https://www.blender.org/events/blender-at-annecy-2023-recap/ Thu, 29 Jun 2023 14:59:11 +0000 https://www.blender.org/?p=89027

A couple of weeks ago, a large delegation of the Blender team attended the Annecy Festival. The festival -and the MIFA film market- keep growing, along with the vibrant animation community. Here are some impressions from the event.

The Blender stand at the film market was always busy, with hundreds of attendees dropping by everyday to say hello and share how much Blender helped them in their personal or professional life. Blender is truly making an impact, especially in emerging markets where the first “fully local” large animated film projects are taking shape. Also, for the first time, some schools are starting to take notice of a slow industry shift towards Blender, and are planning to introduce Blender in their curricula.

Besides the film market presence, the Blender breakfast took place in a café in the old town. With over 70 attendees (some well-known community members, and some new people) this was an opportunity to share Blender project updates, network and connect.

    See you next year!

Blender has a long tradition of being present at SIGGRAPH (for over two decades already), with more events being added to the schedule over the past few years, such as CTN and Annecy Animation Film Festival.

This year, a small delegation (Francesco Siddi and Dalai Felinto) of the Blender team will also attend the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, CA. The primary goal is to network with partners and be available for industry outreach.

    Blender Conference 2022 Recap https://www.blender.org/events/blender-conference-2022-recap/ Tue, 15 Nov 2022 15:56:52 +0000 https://www.blender.org/?p=84831

At long last, the Blender event of the year happened again! Things have changed quite a bit since BCON19. The incredible growth of Blender and its community have made it possible to have yet another “best Blender Conference ever”.

With over 700 attendees and almost 100 presentations spread over five parallel tracks, the amount and quality of content was unprecedented. You can enjoy all presentations on Blender’s YouTube channel or at video.blender.org.

The new venue, Felix Meritis, proved to be a great space for most activities, and the catering for lunch and dinner was highly appreciated.

Special thanks to all attendees who provided suggestions through the feedback form! While the rating for the venue, sessions, and overall vibe of the event was very positive (check figures) there are several ideas on how to improve things further for the next edition.
